Confirmation

Following the Diocesan Programme, those who have completed their fourteenth year (usually year 9 at school) are confirmed by the Bishop after a preparation programme organised by Fr Niven and Sister Eva.

Please watch this space for information about the 2013 Confirmation sessions.

RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Previously run under the title “Journey in faith” – this is a process whereby those interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith can attend weekly sessions in small groups to explore the faith in a systematic way.

They currently run on Monday evenings from 7.45-9.45 in the St Joan’s centre, weekly except during the school holidays.

Through the year, the core teaching of the Church is presented in an informal setting, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, to reflect, discuss and pray about what is covered. For some people this is a journey that leads to baptism or being received into full communion with the Church, if already baptised. Some Catholics join the group because they missed out on Confirmation. Others come because they wish to know more about the Catholic Church and some make the decision not to join. Whatever the reason, all are welcome to come along.

If you are interested in coming along either because you wish to become a Catholic, wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or just would like to know more, please get in touch with Carol Harnett the coordinator, or Fr Niven (parish priest).

Preparation for Marriage

Anyone wishing to get married should give six months notice to the priest, before the date proposed for the marriage. This allows enough time for the necessary paper work and attendance at an Engaged Couples Course. Phone the priest on Tel: 716711 or e-mail.

To all who are planning weddings at St. Joan's. please contact the church first before bookimg your reception venue.

Engaged Encounter

Weekends designed to give engaged couples the opportunity to talk honestly about their attitudes to many subjects that may affect their relationship. It is strongly suggested that couples wishing to marry attend one of these courses as part of their preparation for marriage.

For details please e-mail

Marriage Encounter

This is a group of people in the Catholic Church who believe that marriage is a wonderful vocation. We present weekends for married couples that show this through personal examples. By going on such a weekend, any couple can take responsibility for what is happening in their lives and develop or renew the joy available to them.

If you would like to consider going on such a weekend please e-mail.
